UK procurement notices fall 5.4% as open opportunities ease

The UK procurement market recorded 2,461 notices from 936 buyers in the rolling seven days to 30 September 2026, compared with 2,601 notices from 1,029 buyers in the immediately preceding seven-day period. The verified notice-count comparison shows a 5.4% decline.

Open notices fell to 368 from 496, while awarded notices increased to 1,893 from 1,851. For suppliers, the distinction matters: publication activity includes both opportunities to pursue and records of procurement decisions already made. The overall notice count should not be treated as a measure of available tenders.

Published GBP values totalled £20,535,299,235.97 for the latest seven days, compared with £205,241,246,800.71 in the preceding period. Published values include only GBP values supplied in notices; they are not a complete measure of procurement expenditure or immediately accessible contract value.

Seven-day activity softens

The primary comparison is 24–30 September against 17–23 September. Alongside the decline in total notices, fewer buyers appeared in the latest period and the open-notice count was lower.

Awarded notices moved in the opposite direction, rising to 1,893. This makes award intelligence an important part of the latest dataset, but it also reinforces the need to filter by status before allocating bid resources.

The period contained two closed notices and 24 cancelled notices, compared with one closed notice and 29 cancellations in the preceding seven days. The supplied framework count was zero, against two previously. That classification should be read separately from individual notice titles, some of which refer to frameworks.

For procurement teams, the practical priority is to distinguish live tender requirements, preliminary market engagement and awarded contracts rather than treating every publication as a new competition.

Four-week direction remains mixed

The four-week history shows that the latest decline follows an increase in publication activity through the preceding periods. It does not establish a sustained downward trend.

Total notices remained above the first two periods, despite easing from 17–23 September. Open notices, however, were below every earlier period shown. Awarded notices increased in each successive period.

Published values varied substantially across the four weeks. The facts supplied do not establish the cause of those movements, so the value series should not be used alone to infer a change in underlying demand. Notice counts, buyer participation and procurement status provide necessary context.

Today's sector and buyer picture

The 30 September snapshot contained 518 notices from 303 buyers, with published GBP values of £5,937,030,092.04. It included 89 open notices, 397 awarded notices and one cancellation.

Within the supplied daily sector breakdown, “Other sectors” recorded 142 notices. IT & digital and health & social care each recorded 60, followed by construction & property with 46, transport with 38 and professional services with 25. These are daily figures, not seven-day sector totals.

The most active supplied buyers were NHS Cheshire and Merseyside Integrated Care Board with 13 notices, Suffolk County Council Passenger Transport with 11, Southampton City Council and National Highways Limited with nine each, and Portsmouth City Council with seven.

The daily notice-type breakdown also reflects substantial award and contract-record activity: 151 awarded contract notices on Contracts Finder and 137 contract details notices on Find a Tender, alongside 67 tender notices on Find a Tender.

As secondary context, the same weekday last week recorded 612 notices from 356 buyers. Today's notice count was 15.4% lower on that comparison, although open notices stood at 89 against 87. The rolling seven-day comparison remains the principal measure of market direction.

Source and data quality

This report uses only the supplied verified procurement dataset, including notices identified as originating from Find a Tender and Contracts Finder. Daily sector, buyer and notice-type breakdowns are distinct from the rolling seven-day totals.

Geographic labels include “England”, “United Kingdom” and “UK”, while 85 daily records have no region supplied. These labels should not be treated as a standardised regional market comparison. The listed status and notice-type categories are not presented as exhaustive breakdowns.

Published values include only GBP values supplied in notices and cover different procurement stages. They should not be interpreted as committed spending or the value of live tenders alone. Always verify the original notice, including its current status, deadline, value basis, procurement documents and any amendments, before making a bid decision.
