Opportunity overview
Derbyshire County Council (DCC), the Client, requires to implement a series of safety improvements and associated reinstatement works on the A54 Macclesfield Main Road.
Sections of this route have been identified as having a number of safety and maintenance issues, including:
• Poor carriageway surface quality
• Tight bends
• Standing surface water (increasing the risk of ice during winter)
• Loose rock or cobbles falling from adjacent slopes, creating hazards for road users
Tragically, a fatal incident occurred in April 2024. Coronial proceedings relating to this incident followed that have been reviewed with these safety improvements.
The Client will address other issues by delivering improvement works to the A54 in two phases:
Phase 1 has been completed October 2026 which targeted safety interventions to be completed before Winter 2026.
The next Phase 2 which this contract relates will include further improvements such as renewal and installation of:
• Vehicle restraint systems,
• Drainage and culverts,
• Traffic signs,
• Geotechnical slope stabilization,
• Pavement and resurfacing,
etc for completion between April and June 2027.
This pre-market engagement is for the renewal and installation of vehicle restraint systems. Traffic management will be arranged by the Client, Derbyshire County Council. It is expected that there will be works interfaces with other contractors during the working window.
