UK procurement update: weekly notices fall 4.7%
UK procurement notice activity eased in the rolling seven-day period ending 12 October 2026, with 2,050 notices compared with 2,152 in the immediately preceding seven days. The verified week-on-week change was −4.7%. Buyer participation also narrowed, from 861 buyers to 821.
Published values moved in the opposite direction, reaching £50,029,011,205.984, compared with £14,808,918,365.79 in the preceding period. These totals include only GBP values supplied in notices. They should not be read as the value of contracts currently available to bid for, or as expenditure committed during the week.
For suppliers, the key distinction is between overall publication activity and live opportunities. The latest seven-day period contained 331 open notices, compared with 349 in the preceding period, while awarded notices remained the largest status group.
The rolling seven-day picture
The primary comparison covers 6–12 October against 29 September–5 October. Alongside the reduction in total notices and buyers, awarded notices fell from 1,602 to 1,538. Cancelled notices fell from 10 to one, and closed notices moved from three to zero.
This combination points to lower recorded publication activity across both open and awarded notices. The increase in published GBP value does not reverse that volume signal: notice counts and notice values measure different aspects of the market.
Suppliers assessing their pipeline should therefore keep the 331 open notices separate from the overall total of 2,050. Award publications can support market monitoring, but they are not equivalent to new tender invitations.
Four weeks show the direction
The four-week history places the latest decline in context:
| Period | Notices | Buyers | Open notices | Published GBP value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 15–21 September | 2,180 | 930 | 484 | £80,881,869,140.23 |
| 22–28 September | 2,697 | 996 | 425 | £182,980,778,205.23 |
| 29 September–5 October | 2,152 | 861 | 349 | £14,808,918,365.79 |
| 6–12 October | 2,050 | 821 | 331 | £50,029,011,205.984 |
Total notices peaked in the week of 22–28 September before declining in each of the following two periods. Buyer counts followed the same pattern. Open notices, however, declined throughout all four periods, from 484 in the earliest week to 331 in the latest.
Published values followed a less consistent path. The latest total was above the immediately preceding week but below both earlier September periods. The history therefore supports a clear distinction: publication volumes have recently softened, while reported values have fluctuated rather than followed the same downward sequence.
Daily context remains secondary
The 12 October snapshot recorded 336 notices from 223 buyers, including 70 open and 233 awarded notices. Published GBP value was £3,722,652,383.86.
For the same weekday last week, the supplied figures were 362 notices from 234 buyers, including 59 open and 247 awarded notices, with published value of £782,231,023.69. The verified same-weekday notice change was −7.2%.
That comparison provides secondary context: the daily snapshot had fewer total notices but more open notices than the same weekday last week. It does not alter the primary rolling-week finding that open notices fell from 349 to 331.
Sectors and active buyers
Within the daily snapshot, IT & digital recorded 49 notices, followed by construction & property with 37, professional services with 31, health & social care with 25, and transport with 19. The broader “Other sectors” category contained 96 notices.
The leading buyers by daily notice count were London Borough of Hillingdon with 11, East Riding of Yorkshire Council with nine, and Leicester City Council with eight. The Ministry of Defence and London Borough of Southwark each recorded six.
Notice types reinforce the distinction between tendering and contract reporting. The daily figures included 104 awarded contract notices on Contracts Finder, 85 contract details notices on Find a Tender, 55 tender notices on Find a Tender, and 23 preliminary market engagement notices on Find a Tender.
The supplied regional labels included England with 68 notices and “Not supplied” with 49. They also listed “United Kingdom” and “UK” separately, with 40 and 26 respectively. These labels should not be treated as a consistently standardised geographical breakdown.

Source and data quality
This report uses only the supplied verified procurement dataset. The notice records identify Contracts Finder and Find a Tender as sources. Weekly totals, daily sector rankings and individual notice records describe different levels of coverage and should not be interchanged.
Published values include only GBP amounts supplied in notices, across the recorded statuses. They are not a complete measure of procurement expenditure or available tender value. Notice titles, status labels and regional categories may also require interpretation against the source documentation.
Before pursuing an opportunity, verify the original notice, its current status, deadline, eligibility requirements, value basis and any amendments. Use the weekly trend to guide monitoring, then assess each requirement on its own terms.
