UK procurement update: weekly notices fall as published values rise

The rolling seven-day period ending 7 October 2026 recorded 2,023 procurement notices, compared with 2,461 in the immediately preceding seven days — a 17.8% decline. Buyer participation also fell, from 936 to 806, while open notices moved from 363 to 301.

Published values moved in the opposite direction: £34,640,737,893.24 for 1–7 October, against £20,887,138,875.97 for 24–30 September. These totals include only GBP values supplied in notices. They should not be read as the value of contracts currently available to bid for or as expenditure incurred during the reporting period.

For UK suppliers, the central message is therefore a smaller flow of notices and fewer open opportunities, despite a higher published value total. The four-week history provides important context for that divergence.

The rolling seven-day comparison

Awarded notices remained the largest recorded status group, with 1,541 in the latest seven days compared with 1,901 in the preceding period. Open notices numbered 301, down from 363.

Closed notices stood at 3, compared with 2, and cancelled notices at 3, compared with 25. The framework count was 0 in both periods.

This distinction between notice volume and procurement stage matters when assessing the market. Award information can support account planning and market intelligence, but it is not interchangeable with an invitation to tender. Suppliers reviewing the higher published value total should first establish whether relevant notices are open, upcoming or already awarded.

The reduction in buyers, alongside lower notice and open-notice counts, reinforces the quieter picture shown by the primary seven-day comparison. It does not, by itself, establish why publication activity changed.

Four weeks show declining open notices

1–7 October2,023806301£34,640,737,893.24

Notice volumes and buyer participation rose in 17–23 September, then declined across the following two periods. The latest period has the lowest notice, buyer and open-notice counts in this four-week history.

Open notices followed the same broad direction: 446, then 504, followed by 363 and 301. This gives suppliers a stronger basis for interpreting the current reduction than a single publication-date snapshot.

Published values followed a different pattern. They peaked at £205,251,117,834.04 in 17–23 September, fell in the next period and recovered in the latest seven days. The latest total remains below both earlier September periods. The supplied data do not establish the cause of these value movements.

Publication-day context

On 7 October, coverage comprised 346 notices from 200 buyers, with published GBP values of £1,126,959,926.92. The recorded statuses included 43 open and 288 awarded notices.

As secondary context, the same weekday last week recorded 518 notices, 303 buyers, 87 open notices and 399 awarded notices, with published values of £6,238,530,092.04. The supplied same-weekday notice comparison is 33.2% lower.

This supports the quieter publication picture, but the rolling seven-day comparison remains the principal measure because it covers activity across the reporting period.

Sectors and buyers to monitor

In the 7 October sector breakdown, Other sectors accounted for 68 notices, followed by Professional services with 56, Construction & property with 42, and IT & digital with 37. Health & social care recorded 31, and Transport recorded 27.

The leading buyers by notice count were Borough of Telford & Wrekin with 19, Innovate UK with 17, National Highways Limited with 15, UK RESEARCH & INNOVATION with 12, and Suffolk County Council Passenger Transport with 7. These are publication counts, not measures of spend or live tender availability.

The notice-type breakdown also highlights the importance of separating stages. It included 156 awarded contract notices on Contracts Finder, 93 contract details notices on Find a Tender, and 26 tender notices on Find a Tender. Preliminary market engagement notices on Find a Tender and opportunity notices on Contracts Finder each numbered 11.

Source and data-quality note

This report uses the supplied verified ProcuraAxis dataset, including notices identified as originating from Contracts Finder and Find a Tender. Published value totals include only GBP values supplied in notices; no missing values or other currencies have been estimated.

The supplied status categories do not account for every notice in the headline totals, so they should not be treated as a complete status reconciliation. Regional information also has gaps: 63 notices in the publication-day breakdown have the region recorded as Not supplied. Location labels should not be assumed to define delivery eligibility.

Always verify the original notice and procurement documents for current status, scope, value, deadlines and amendments before committing resources or submitting a response.

Highlighted opportunities
