UK procurement notices fall 14.1% over seven days
UK procurement publication activity eased in the rolling seven days to 6 October 2026. The verified dataset recorded 2,195 notices, compared with 2,555 in the immediately preceding seven-day period, a supplied decline of 14.1%.
Buyer participation and open-notice activity also fell. The latest period covered 852 buyers, against 955 previously, with 344 open notices compared with 366. Published GBP values totalled £39,757,708,058.36, below the preceding period’s £41,247,640,119.22.
For suppliers, the central finding is a quieter weekly publication picture, rather than a broad expansion in immediately contestable work. High-value notices published on 6 October include preliminary market engagement, which should be distinguished from live tenders.
The rolling seven-day comparison
The primary comparison covers 30 September–6 October, measured against 23–29 September. Alongside the decline in total notices, awarded-status records fell to 1,652 from 1,986. Closed-status records remained at 3, while cancelled records stood at 4, compared with 26 in the preceding period.
Awarded records therefore remain a prominent feature of the publication mix. They provide market intelligence, but should not be treated as invitations to submit a bid. Suppliers reviewing the headline notice count need to separate open work, future engagement and contract outcomes before deciding where to invest bid resources.
Neither seven-day period recorded any notices in the supplied framework count. That classification should not be confused with the wording of individual notice titles: a procurement carrying “Framework” in its name can appear under another notice type or status.
Four weeks show an uneven direction
The four-week history places the latest decline in context. Publication counts rose across the earlier periods before easing in the latest week; buyer participation and open notices have followed different paths.
| Seven-day period | Notices | Buyers | Open notices | Published GBP value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 9–15 September | 2,085 | 818 | 425 | £50,957,500,977.50 |
| 16–22 September | 2,387 | 992 | 501 | £192,137,520,069.37 |
| 23–29 September | 2,555 | 955 | 366 | £41,247,640,119.22 |
| 30 September–6 October | 2,195 | 852 | 344 | £39,757,708,058.36 |
The latest notice count remains above the first period in this history, despite falling from the preceding week. Buyer numbers peaked in 16–22 September and subsequently declined. Open notices also peaked in that period and have fallen across the following two periods.
Published value was highest in 16–22 September, before moving lower in each subsequent period. The figures demonstrate why notice volume, buyer participation and monetary value should be read separately: none is a substitute for assessing the actual work available to a supplier.
Same-weekday activity provides secondary context
On 6 October itself, the dataset recorded 497 notices from 270 buyers, including 53 open and 401 awarded records. The same weekday last week recorded 454 notices from 278 buyers, with 58 open and 348 awarded records.
The supplied same-weekday notice comparison is an increase of 9.5%. However, this is secondary context: it does not overturn the decline in the rolling seven-day measure. The higher daily publication count also coincided with fewer buyers and fewer open notices than on the equivalent weekday.
Daily published GBP value was £27,307,252,920.12, compared with £2,363,767,227.55 on the same weekday last week. These are notice-supplied values, not a measure of spending committed that day or the value of contracts currently open to competition.
Sectors and buyers in the daily breakdown
Professional services led the supplied sector breakdown with 125 notices, followed by Other sectors with 120. IT & digital recorded 50, health & social care 42, construction & property 36, and transport 33.
The leading named buyers were Innovate UK, with 56 notices, and UK RESEARCH & INNOVATION, with 23. National Highways Limited recorded 11, Suffolk County Council Passenger Transport 7, and Torus Group 6. These are publication counts, not counts of live tender opportunities.
The notice-type breakdown reinforces that distinction. It includes 243 awarded contract notices on Contracts Finder, 88 contract details notices on Find a Tender, 40 tender notices on Find a Tender and 32 preliminary market engagement notices on Find a Tender.
For suppliers, this mix supports two separate activities: reviewing open notices for bid suitability, and using award and contract-detail publications to understand buyer activity without mistaking them for new competitions.

Source and data-quality note
This report uses only the supplied verified dataset dated 6 October 2026, including records from Find a Tender and Contracts Finder. Published values include only GBP values supplied in notices; they are not a complete measure of procurement spending, committed expenditure or available bid value.
Status and notice type should be checked together. A missing deadline in this dataset does not establish that no response timetable exists. Regional labels also require care: the supplied breakdown separately lists “United Kingdom” and “UK”, while 80 records have no region supplied.
Always verify the original notice, supporting documents, current status, value basis and submission deadline before making an engagement or bidding decision.
