Weekly procurement activity eases

UK procurement notice volumes fell in the rolling seven-day period ending 5 October 2026. Coverage recorded 2,152 notices from 862 buyers between 29 September and 5 October, compared with 2,697 notices from 997 buyers between 22 and 28 September. The supplied comparison shows a 20.2% decline in notice volume.

Open-notice counts also fell, from 412 in the preceding seven-day period to 351 in the latest period. Awarded notices remained the largest recorded status group, with 1,595 compared with 2,070 previously. For suppliers, this distinction matters: overall publication activity includes award reporting and should not be read as a count of contracts currently available to bid for.

Published GBP values totalled £14,812,732,365.79 in the latest seven days, against £182,980,040,231.90 in the preceding period. Published values include only GBP values supplied in notices. They are not a measure of all procurement expenditure or guaranteed supplier revenue.

Four-week history shows a mixed direction

The four-week history puts the latest decline into context. Notice volumes rose through the first three periods before falling in the latest week. The latest count is below the preceding two periods, but above the earliest period shown.

Seven-day periodNoticesBuyersOpen noticesPublished GBP value
8–14 September 20262,113830434£20,327,754,386.88
15–21 September 20262,180929481£80,859,427,052.71
22–28 September 20262,697997412£182,980,040,231.90
29 September–5 October 20262,152862351£14,812,732,365.79

The open-notice series gives a more directly relevant signal for bid teams. After reaching 481 in the 15–21 September period, it fell to 412 and then 351. That supports a reading of fewer open notices in recent coverage, rather than relying solely on the headline total.

Published GBP values rose across the first three periods and then fell to the lowest total in this four-week history. The figures establish that direction, but the supplied data does not explain the causes of the value movement. It would therefore be inappropriate to treat it as evidence of a corresponding change in procurement budgets.

Awards dominate the weekly mix

The latest seven-day period recorded 1,595 awarded notices, 351 open notices, three closed notices and eight cancelled notices. The preceding period recorded 2,070 awarded, 412 open, three closed and 31 cancelled notices.

For procurement professionals, award publications are useful for understanding completed buying activity. Suppliers looking for immediate bidding opportunities should distinguish them from open tenders and from upcoming pipeline or preliminary market engagement notices.

The supplied framework count is zero for the latest period. However, individual opportunity titles include frameworks. The aggregate classification and the wording of a notice title should therefore be read separately; a zero framework count should not be taken to mean there are no framework-related notices to review.

Latest-day context remains secondary

On 5 October, coverage recorded 362 notices from 234 buyers, with published GBP values of £787,641,023.69. The same weekday last week recorded 420 notices from 265 buyers, with values of £7,763,183,869.75. The supplied same-weekday notice comparison is a decline of 13.8%.

This is secondary context to the rolling seven-day comparison. The latest day recorded 59 open notices against 57 on the same weekday last week, while awarded notices numbered 246 against 324. A single publication day therefore presents a different open-notice picture from the weekly series and should not replace it as the main market indicator.

Sectors and buyers to monitor

In the latest-day sector breakdown, “Other sectors” recorded 89 notices, followed by professional services with 51 and IT & digital with 48. Construction & property recorded 32, health & social care 30, and transport 14.

The listed notice types also show why publication volume needs careful interpretation. Awarded contract notices on Contracts Finder numbered 101 and contract details notices on Find a Tender numbered 92. Find a Tender recorded 43 tender notices and 42 preliminary market engagement notices in the supplied breakdown.

UK RESEARCH & INNOVATION led the listed buyers with 17 notices, followed by Innovate UK with nine. University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Surrey County Council each recorded seven, while Leicester City Council recorded five.

Geographical labels require care. The supplied regional breakdown contains “England”, “United Kingdom” and “UK”, alongside coded entries and “Not supplied”. These are not a uniform set of regional categories, so suppliers should check the location and delivery requirements in each original notice.

Source and data-quality note

This report uses the supplied verified procurement dataset dated 5 October 2026, including notices identified as originating from Find a Tender and Contracts Finder. The primary comparison is the rolling seven-day period against the immediately preceding seven-day period, supported by four-week history and secondary same-weekday context.

Counts describe recorded notice activity, not necessarily distinct contracts. Published values include only GBP values supplied in notices; missing values and other currencies are not represented in those totals. Verify the original notice for current status, scope, value basis, eligibility, deadlines and any amendments before deciding whether to participate.

Highlighted opportunities

ProcuraAxis analysis uses published procurement records. Values include only amounts supplied in source notices. Always verify deadlines, eligibility and documents with the original notice.
