UK procurement notices fall 21.8% across rolling seven days

UK procurement activity eased in the rolling seven-day period ending 2 October 2026, with 2,214 notices compared with 2,830 in the immediately preceding seven days. The supplied comparison records a 21.8% decline in notice volume.

Buyer coverage also narrowed, from 1,018 buyers to 878. Open notices fell from 469 to 354, while awarded notices declined from 2,130 to 1,668. For suppliers, the immediate picture is therefore one of fewer recorded open notices alongside lower overall publication activity.

Published values totalled £21,783,340,645.64, compared with £203,047,583,957.15 in the preceding period. These totals include only GBP values supplied in notices. They should not be treated as the value of currently available work or as a complete measure of procurement spending.

Seven-day comparison

The primary comparison covers 26 September–2 October against 19–25 September, rather than individual publication days.

The fall in open notices matters for bid planning, but the overall count also includes substantial award reporting. Suppliers should distinguish notices that invite participation from those describing procurement outcomes. Neither the total notice count nor the aggregate published value represents a ready-to-bid pipeline on its own.

The supplied figures establish that published value was lower in the latest period. They do not establish why the preceding period's total was substantially higher, so no conclusion about its underlying cause is warranted.

Four weeks show an uneven direction

The four-week history puts the latest decline in context. Notice volume moved from 2,141 in 5–11 September to 1,985 in 12–18 September, then rose to 2,830 in 19–25 September before falling to 2,214 in the latest period.

26 September–2 October2,214878354£21,783,340,645.64

This is not a continuous four-week contraction in total notices. The latest count remains above both earlier September periods, although below the immediately preceding week. Buyer coverage follows a similar pattern: the latest 878 buyers exceed the first two periods but fall short of 1,018 in 19–25 September.

Open notices offer a more cautious signal. The latest 354 is below each of the other three periods shown. Suppliers should maintain opportunity monitoring while separating changes in publication volume from the suitability of individual contracts.

Daily sectors and buyer activity

The 2 October snapshot contains 347 notices from 229 buyers, including 79 open and 232 awarded notices. Its published GBP value is £4,174,359,196.42. These daily figures provide detail, not a substitute for the seven-day comparison.

Within the supplied daily sector breakdown, Other sectors accounts for 102 notices. Named categories include Health & social care with 42, Construction & property with 39, Professional services with 25, IT & digital with 24, and Transport with 21.

The leading supplied buyers are Surrey County Council, with 9 notices; Innovate UK, with 7; UK Research and Innovation and National Highways Limited, each with 6; and NORWICH CITY SERVICES LIMITED, with 5. These counts indicate publication activity, not necessarily open tender availability.

Notice types reinforce that distinction. The daily breakdown includes 93 contract details notices on Find a Tender, 71 tender notices on Find a Tender, 44 awarded contract notices on Contracts Finder, and 31 preliminary market engagement notices on Find a Tender. Suppliers should check the procurement stage before allocating bid resources.

Same-weekday context

Source and data quality

This report uses only the supplied verified dataset dated 2 October 2026, including notice records from Find a Tender and Contracts Finder. Regional labels mix names and codes, and some records have no supplied region; they should not be read as a harmonised geographical ranking.

Published values include only GBP amounts supplied in notices and cover different procurement stages. Missing deadlines do not establish that no participation deadline exists. Verify the original notice and procurement documents before acting on status, value, scope, deadlines or eligibility.
