UK procurement update: weekly notice volumes rise 40.7%

UK procurement notice activity increased in the rolling seven-day period ending 27 September 2026, with 2,819 notices compared with 2,004 in the immediately preceding seven days. The supplied comparison records a 40.7% increase in notice volumes.

Buyer participation also rose, from 869 to 1,011, while the number of records classified as open moved from 434 to 476. For suppliers, the distinction between total publication activity and open opportunities remains important: the latest period included 2,107 awarded records, compared with 1,351 in the preceding period.

The four-week history shows the latest period reaching the highest notice count in the supplied series. However, the daily snapshot is much smaller and should not displace the rolling weekly comparison when assessing market direction.

Weekly activity strengthens

The primary comparison covers 21–27 September against 14–20 September. Alongside the higher notice and buyer counts, the latest period recorded 36 cancelled records, compared with 19, and 3 closed records, compared with 11. Frameworks numbered 2, against 0 in the preceding period.

These categories describe different parts of the procurement cycle. Open records are the relevant starting point for suppliers seeking current opportunities, while award records provide information about completed procurement activity. A higher overall notice count should therefore not be read as an equivalent increase in tenders available to bid for.

The increase in open records nevertheless gives suppliers a reason to review the latest weekly coverage. That review should distinguish current competitions from planned procurement, market engagement and awards, rather than treating every published record as an invitation to tender.

Four-week trend shows a rebound

The supplied history provides a broader view of the latest increase:

PeriodNoticesBuyersOpen recordsAwarded records
31 August–6 September1,519677287976
7–13 September2,1378554421,424
14–20 September2,0048694341,351
21–27 September2,8191,0114762,107

Notice volumes rose between the first and second periods, eased in the third, and then increased in the latest period. Open and awarded records followed the same directional pattern across these four weeks.

Buyer counts, by contrast, increased in every period shown. The latest weekly expansion therefore sits within a sustained rise in recorded buyer participation, even though notice volumes did not increase in every week.

For procurement monitoring, this history supports a stronger latest-week picture without implying an uninterrupted upward trend in publication volumes.

Published values need careful interpretation

The latest seven-day period recorded published GBP values of £203,050,987,614.15, compared with £62,736,798,132.76 in the preceding period.

Earlier periods recorded £12,469,027,502.21 for 7–13 September and £15,864,223,611.04 for 31 August–6 September. The value series therefore fell between the first two periods before rising in the subsequent two.

Published values include only GBP values supplied in notices. They do not represent a complete valuation of every record, and the weekly total should not be interpreted as the value of currently open tenders. The coverage includes awarded records and other procurement stages as well as open opportunities.

Suppliers should check the original notice to establish what a stated value covers before using it for bid qualification or commercial planning.

Daily snapshot provides secondary context

On 27 September, the supplied coverage contains 5 notices from 4 buyers, with published GBP values of £210,000. It records 1 open and 1 awarded opportunity, with 0 closed, 0 cancelled and 0 frameworks.

The same weekday last week recorded 10 notices from 3 buyers, published GBP values of £13,698,000, and 10 awarded records. The supplied same-weekday notice comparison is -50%.

That daily comparison contrasts with the stronger rolling weekly result. Its notice mix also differs: the current snapshot includes 2 preliminary market engagement notices, 1 tender notice, 1 planned procurement notice and 1 award. This makes the same-weekday comparison useful as secondary context, rather than the principal measure of procurement direction.

Opportunities to review

The following five supplied records illustrate the different procurement stages in the daily snapshot. Only the Heritage Fund record is classified as open; the planned procurement and engagement records should not be presented as live tender competitions.

Source and data quality

This report uses only the supplied verified procurement dataset dated 27 September 2026, including records identified as originating from Find a Tender and Public Contracts Scotland. The primary comparison is the rolling seven-day period against the immediately preceding seven-day period, supported by four-week history and secondary same-weekday context.

Missing values and deadlines have not been estimated. Published values include only supplied GBP amounts. Aggregate counts should not be assumed to represent unique contracts or a complete market valuation. Verify the original notice for current status, scope, dates, value definitions and submission or engagement instructions before taking action.
