UK procurement update: weekly notice volumes rise 23.7%
UK procurement publication activity increased in the rolling seven-day period ending 23 September 2026, with 2,601 notices from 1,029 buyers. Notice volume was 23.7% higher than in the immediately preceding seven-day period, which recorded 2,102 notices from 817 buyers.
Published GBP values reached £205,241,246,800.71, compared with £61,762,393,029.66 in the preceding period. These totals include only GBP values supplied in notices. They should not be treated as a measure of spending completed during the week or as the value of contracts currently available to bid for.
For suppliers, the main distinction is between increased publication activity and actionable tender opportunities. Awards remain prominent, but open-status notices and early-stage procurement signals also warrant attention.
The rolling seven-day comparison
The current reporting window covers 17–23 September, compared with 10–16 September. Alongside the rise in total notices and buyer numbers, the dataset recorded 496 open-status notices, against 444 in the preceding period.
Awarded-status notices increased from 1,412 to 1,851. This means the weekly increase includes substantial publication activity relating to completed procurement decisions, rather than solely new competitions.
Other supplied classifications recorded one closed notice, compared with 27 previously, and 29 cancelled notices, compared with 26. The framework count was two, against zero in the preceding seven-day period.
Suppliers should therefore use the headline growth figure as a signal to review the market more closely, not as a substitute for checking notice status. Award information can support account research and market intelligence, while open tenders require a separate assessment of scope, eligibility and deadlines.
Four weeks show rising notice activity
The four-week history shows notice volumes increasing in each successive reporting period. Buyer participation also ends higher, although it did not rise consistently throughout the sequence.
| Reporting period | Notices | Buyers | Published GBP values |
|---|---|---|---|
| 27 August–2 September | 1,419 | 676 | £20,842,540,055.64 |
| 3–9 September | 1,967 | 823 | £14,055,649,602.39 |
| 10–16 September | 2,102 | 817 | £61,762,393,029.66 |
| 17–23 September | 2,601 | 1,029 | £205,241,246,800.71 |
Open-status counts also increased across the four periods: 222, 409, 444 and 496. Awarded-status counts followed the same upward direction, at 960, 1,276, 1,412 and 1,851.
Published values followed a different path. They fell between the first and second periods before increasing in the following two. The latest value total therefore reinforces the recent upward direction, but the four-week record does not show uninterrupted value growth.
This distinction matters for procurement planning. Notice volume, buyer participation and published value describe different aspects of the market and should be considered together rather than used interchangeably.
Daily sector and buyer context
The 23 September snapshot recorded 612 notices from 356 buyers, with published GBP values of £26,598,500,393.29. Within that daily coverage, 485 notices were classified as awarded and 87 as open.
Professional services accounted for 84 notices, followed by health and social care with 59, IT and digital with 55, construction and property with 41, and transport with 34. The broader “Other sectors” category contained 135 notices. These are daily sector figures, not the sector breakdown of the rolling seven-day total.
The leading named buyers by daily notice count were Innovate UK with 36, NHS England and the Ministry of Justice with 13 each, and Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Bristol City Council with 10 each.
Notice types further underline the importance of separating market intelligence from live bidding. The daily figures included 189 awarded contract notices on Contracts Finder, 174 contract details notices on Find a Tender, 67 tender notices on Find a Tender and 26 preliminary market engagement notices on Find a Tender.
Five notices to assess
The following notices were published on 23 September. Their supplied values and statuses provide a starting point for review, not confirmation of suitability or guaranteed expenditure.
Technology Products and Associated Services 3
Government Commercial Agency published a preliminary market engagement notice with a supplied value of £20,000,000,000. Its status is upcoming, and no deadline is supplied in the dataset.
Technology suppliers should review the original notice for the proposed requirement and any engagement arrangements. This is an early-stage signal, not an open tender in the supplied record.

NEYPPC Pharmacy – ULM Aseptic Compounded Specials
Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust published this pipeline notice with a supplied value of £1,706,073,746.65. It is classified as upcoming, with no deadline supplied.

Technical and Highways Works Framework
Salford City Council published an open tender notice with a supplied value of £300,000,000. Its recorded deadline is 4 November 2026 at 15:00 GMT.
The framework title makes this relevant for technical and highways suppliers to investigate, but the original documents remain essential for understanding the precise requirements.

Leicestershire County Council, trading as ESPO, published an open tender notice with a supplied value of £83,333,333. The recorded deadline is 14 October 2026 at 12:00 BST.

Same-weekday context
As a secondary comparison, the 23 September notice count of 612 was 53.8% higher than the same weekday last week, when 398 notices were recorded. Buyer counts were 356 and 260 respectively, while open-status counts were 87 in both snapshots.
This supports the picture of higher publication activity, but does not show an increase in open-status notices on that weekday comparison. The rolling seven-day comparison remains the stronger basis for interpreting the report.
Source and data-quality note
This article uses only the supplied verified dataset, including notice records from Find a Tender and Contracts Finder. Published value totals include only GBP values supplied in notices; they do not establish actual expenditure, available funding or guaranteed supplier revenue.
The supplied status, notice-type and framework fields should be read separately. A framework title, for example, should not be assumed to correspond directly to the aggregate framework count. Regional reporting also includes “Not supplied”, so geographic coverage is not complete.
Always verify the original notice and procurement documents for the latest status, value context, deadlines, scope and submission requirements before taking action.
