UK procurement update: seven-day notice volumes rise 3.2%

The seven days to 21 September recorded 2,180 procurement notices across 928 buyers, with open notices continuing their four-week upward trend. Published GBP values rose sharply, but suppliers should distinguish pipeline and framework notices from immediately actionable tenders.

Four-week procurement notice counts rising from 1,471 to 2,180 in the periods ending 31 August to 21 September 2026.

UK procurement update: seven-day notice volumes rise 3.2%

UK procurement notice volumes continued to rise in the rolling seven days to 21 September 2026. The period recorded 2,180 notices, compared with 2,113 in the immediately preceding seven days: an increase of 3.2%. Buyer coverage also broadened, from 830 to 928 buyers.

Open notices increased from 436 to 479, while published values reached £80,849,995,294.71, compared with £20,327,149,386.88 in the preceding period. These published values include only GBP values supplied in notices. They should not be treated as confirmed expenditure or as the value of work currently available to bid for.

For suppliers, the clearest signal is the sustained rise in notice volumes, buyer coverage and open notices across the four-week history. The value figures need a separate reading because the supplied opportunities include substantial pipeline, market engagement and framework notices.

Four weeks of rising activity

The rolling seven-day comparison is supported by a consistent upward direction in notice counts and buyer coverage across the supplied weekly history.

15–21 September2,180928479£80,849,995,294.71

Notice volumes, buyers and open notices rose in each successive period. Published values followed a different path: they fell between the first and second weeks, then increased in the following two periods. That distinction matters when assessing the market. More notices and broader buyer coverage indicate increasing publication activity, whereas value totals can be strongly influenced by individual notices.

The latest week therefore extends the direction already visible in September, rather than representing an isolated increase in notice volume.

Awards remain prominent

Awarded records remained the largest supplied status category in the latest seven-day period, with 1,463, compared with 1,416 in the preceding period. Their four-week sequence also rose, from 1,016 to 1,227, then 1,416 and 1,463.

Closed notices moved from 35 to 8, while cancelled notices moved from 34 to 22. The supplied framework count was 1, compared with 0 in the preceding period. That classification should not be used to infer how many notice titles concern frameworks.

For business development teams, award publication and live bidding activity serve different purposes. Open tender notices support immediate qualification decisions; award and contract details notices are better read as evidence of procurement outcomes rather than invitations to submit a bid.

Sector and buyer activity

The 21 September daily snapshot, distinct from the rolling weekly figures, recorded 542 notices across 333 buyers, including 123 open and 364 awarded records.

In that snapshot, construction and property recorded 59 notices, health and social care 51, professional services 44, IT and digital 40, and transport 27. The broader “Other sectors” category contained 150.

The University of the West of England led the supplied buyer list with 19 notices, followed by UK Research and Innovation with 9. Halton Borough Council and FIRST GREATER WESTERN LIMITED each recorded 7, while Public Services Delivery Scotland recorded 6.

Notice types reinforce the distinction between new bidding opportunities and procurement reporting. The daily list included 144 contract details notices on Find a Tender, 99 awarded contract notices on Contracts Finder, 73 tender notices on Find a Tender and 34 preliminary market engagement notices on Find a Tender.

Same-weekday context

As secondary context, 21 September recorded 542 notices, compared with 366 on the same weekday last week, an increase of 48.1%. Buyer counts were 333 and 242, while open notices were 123 and 78 respectively.

This daily comparison supports the broader direction, but the rolling seven-day increase of 3.2% remains the primary measure. It provides a less day-specific basis for assessing publication activity.

Source and data quality

This report uses only the supplied verified procurement dataset. Published value totals include only GBP values supplied in notices and are not a measure of realised spending. Notice counts should not automatically be read as counts of distinct contracts or immediately available tenders.

The supplied opportunity list includes the same biologics and methotrexate procurement under Find a Tender and Public Contracts Scotland records, with differing timestamp information. Regional labels also mix names and codes, including “United Kingdom”, “UK” and “Not supplied”; they should not be treated as a clean geographic ranking.

Suppliers should verify the original notice and associated documents, especially status, deadlines, time zones, scope and submission requirements, before committing bid resources.

Highlighted opportunities

ProcuraAxis analysis uses published procurement records. Values include only amounts supplied in source notices. Always verify deadlines, eligibility and documents with the original notice.
