Why this procedure was chosen
A UK2 notice was published, and market engagement activities were undertaken to assess if there were alternative suppliers. While one potential alternative supplier initially expressed interest, they subsequently confirmed that they were unable to deliver the required scope. The proposed supplier's solution has been tested and demonstrated the necessary tolerance to radiation effects, a critical requirement for this application. Following completion of the market engagement process, Sellafield has concluded that there are no alternative suppliers capable of meeting the technical and operational requirements. Accordingly, a direct award is justified.
