Opportunity overview
A Council wide fleet review is still in progress and will determine the type of van and fuel required going forward. This review will outline how the Councils fleet can meet operational requirements going forward as well as how it can support net zero ambitions. Depending on the outcome of the review it will also impact infrastructure requirements, such as the need for electric charge points if the Council opts for alternatives to diesel or petrol. In addition, the Council is trailing Electric Vans to ascertain how they will fit into operating models, along with relevant charging requirements such as home chargers and the processes involved in managing these. As a result of this it is not currently practical to replace the existing fleet of 91 housing vans without having an appropriate plan, infrastructure and support services in place. A commitment to replace the vans at this stage would result in additional costs to the Council and potentially work against the Councils net Zero targets in the long term. In addition to the financial costs involved, a change in supplier at this stage could result in vehicles/a service that is incompatible with existing ways of working which would prevent Council staff from undertaking appropriate repair and maintenance work for its Contract Holders, thus negatively impacting the service received by the public.
