Purchase and Install of Safety Cabinets

Opportunity overview

The institute of Genetics and Cancer requires the replacement of an additional 10 microbiological safety cabinets (MBSCs) across the facility as they are over 25 years old and now at end of life. As such, there is an increasing risk of failure impacting ongoing research activities. A contract was put in place with Laboratory Specialist Services (LSS) last year to supply and replace some of these MBSCs, on the basis that as the existing maintenance contractor, they have detailed, site-specific knowledge of a building with a highly complex services layout. Funding has now been granted for replacement of a further 10 cabinets, within the same environment and constraints. The works are identical in nature, and continue to rely on the same technical understanding of the existing facility. This was progressed as a contract modification under Regulation 72(1)(e) of the Public Contracts Regulations 2015, as the change to the contract is not substantial (as defined by Regulation 72(8)). This will ensure continuity of knowledge, reduced delivery risk and efficient completion of the work.
