- PIARC (Permanent International Association of Road Congresses also known as the World Road Association) was first held in Paris in 1908. It brings together the road administrations of 121 governments and has members − individuals, companies, authorities, and organisations – in over 140 countries. The aim of PIARC is to identify, develop, and promulgate policy and practices that contribute to safer and more efficient management and use of roads and road transport systems. It is the leading international forum for analysis and discussion of roads matters. PIARC’s work is mostly undertaken through a series of Technical Committees and Task Forces over a four-year work cycle where the UK is one of the leading participants – bringing expertise from across private and public sectors.
